Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, stressed, on December 8 in Dubai, the need to invest in education, in a new era of technologies and artificial intelligence, to transform the youth into world citizens, involved in the protection of our planet.
Intervening at the opening of the first annual high-level meeting of the “Greening Education Partnership” Initiative, organized by UNESCO and the Emirati Ministry of Education, within the framework of COP28, Her Royal Highness also emphasized the importance of greater international solidarity, especially from developed countries towards the South, at a time of increased technology use, further widens the gap between the countries of the North and the South, particularly in terms of access to data and artificial intelligence in the field of education.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa called, in this regard, for concrete measures to address these inequalities through the simplification of international funding procedures, and accessibility to resources to ensure full inclusion.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness shared the concrete, continuous, and fruitful efforts of Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, for the promotion of education for sustainable development through several programs over the course of 20 years, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports.
In a similar context, Her Royal Highness highlighted the Foundation’s actions which aim to mobilize and unite Africa’s youth through its two initiatives “African Youth Climate Hub” and “African Green Universities and Youth Education Network”.
Speaking about the “African Youth Climate Hub”, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa explained that this initiative accounts for 18,000 members from 9 African countries, adding that the first edition of this initiative resulted in 10 projects, with a monthly revenue of USD 500,000.
More than 20 partnerships have been concluded, which has contributed to the creation of more than 15 jobs in just six months, explained Her Royal Highness, adding that the second call for projects closed on October 15, 2023, received no less than 245 proposals.
On a final note, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa launched an inspiring appeal to the youth, inviting them to express their creativity and contribute to the preservation of the planet from climate change, inviting them to draw inspiration from elders who have managed to cope with today’s challenges to build a more sustainable future for all.
