FM Nasser Bourita Sheds Light on Efforts of HM King Mohammed VI in Human Rights Field

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, affirmed on May 8 in Paraguay that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has made the protection and promotion of human rights the “foundation of a modern, just, and peaceful society”.

In a message addressed to the second International Seminar on National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up (NMIRFs) in the Field of Human Rights, Bourita welcomed this conclave which “takes place just one year after that of Marrakech in December 2022”.

In this regard, the Moroccan diplomat expressed the Kingdom’s commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights, in accordance with the High Directives of His Majesty the King, highlighting major projects initiated by His Majesty the King in this field, including the revision of the Family Code, the National Initiative for Human Development, the Development Model of the Southern Provinces, the New Development Model and the generalization of social protection.

“These major national projects were also based on a solid institutional architecture of human rights”, stressed Bourita, adding that this was further consolidated through the 2011 Constitution, “a true national charter of Human Rights”.

In the same context, the minister affirmed that the Kingdom “spares no effort to maintain a policy of positive and proactive interaction with international Human Rights mechanisms”, through constant, transparent, and systematic communication with the bodies in charge.

Bourita also shed light on the crucial role of the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights (DIDH), which in 13 years, has been able to develop a harmonious approach that makes it possible to establish dynamic interaction between Morocco and the United Nations (UN) human rights bodies.

The Moroccan delegation taking part in the International Seminar on National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up (NMIRFs) in the Field of Human Rights includes the Secretary General of the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights (DIDH), Abdelkarim Boujradi, Advisor Moujahid Abbadi, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Paraguay, Badreddine Abdelmoumni.
