New government formation: Akhannouch holds meeting with USFP first secretary

Prime Minister-designate Aziz Akhannouch held a meeting in Rabat on Monday with Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) First Secretary Driss Lashgar as part of consultations to form the new government.

In a statement to the press at the end of this meeting, Mr. Lachgar indicated that this interview was an opportunity to initiate “preliminary consultations on our perception of the situation at the national and international levels, and on what worries the Moroccan people and our country in this delicate situation ”.

He noted that this meeting “was also an opportunity to highlight the efforts made by the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the USFP, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, in order to serve the country”, stressing to this respect that his party “is always ready to give more to bring the new development project of the Kingdom to fruition”.

Mr. Lachgar held, at the same time, to congratulate the Head of the government appointed for the royal confidence placed in him, and for having won the bet by occupying the first place in the elections of September 8.

Mr. Akhannouch began on Monday consultations for the formation of the new government by two meetings with the secretary general of the Party Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), Abdellatif Ouahbi, and the secretary general of the Party of Istiqlal (PI), Nizar Baraka.

The USFP came fourth in the September 8 elections with 35 seats, behind the RNI (102), PAM (86) and PI (81).

HM King Mohammed VI received, last Friday at the Royal Palace in Fez, the president of the RNI, Aziz Akhannouch, whom the Sovereign appointed Head of Government and instructed him to form the new executive.

“From this day on, we will engage in consultations with the parties, with which we will be in agreement in the future, for the formation of a coherent majority, homogeneous and carrying convergent programs”, assured Mr. Akhannouch in a statement to the press after the royal audience.

Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami, member of the political bureau of the RNI, indicated on Saturday that the designated Head of Government would conduct a series of consultations with all the parties which obtained seats in Parliament for the formation of a coalition in view to form the next government team.
