The committee in charge of the 2020-2027 National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI), held Monday in Rabat, under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, its fourth meeting devoted to the assessment of the state of dams and water reservoirs.
In a statement, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka noted that this meeting was an opportunity “to present the situation of the dams and water resources following the last rains”, which favored an influx of 1.7 billion cubic meters of water.
In a similar context, Baraka stressed that the meeting was also an opportunity to relaunch the 2020-2027 program for dams and seawater desalination, adding that this plan takes into account the green investment program recently presented to HM King Mohammed VI by the OCP Group, which will eventually produce 560 million cubic meters from desalination, part of which will meet the drinking water needs of certain cities.
The meeting also covered the use of treated wastewater and the new program dedicated to dams, in particular 200 small dams scheduled for the period 2024-2027, within the framework of a partnership with the concerned regions.
