The Gnaoua World Music Festival will make a comeback for its 24th edition between June 22 and 24, promising moments of grace with fusion concerts, improvised jam sessions, and great debates.
The Festival’s organizers announced yesterday, May 8, during a press conference, the line-up for this year’s edition, which will see performances by Fehd Benchemsi and the Lallas, Hoba Hoba Spirit, Maâlem Najib Oubelqass, HASBA groove, Maâlem Hamid El Kasri, and Farid Ghannam, among several other prominent artists.
As per previous editions, this year’s edition includes performances by international artists, such as Eliades Ochoa, Faiz Ali Faiz, El Comité, Bab L’Bluz, Gnawa Diffusion, and Les Amazones d’Afrique.
During this three-day event, the Gnaoua World Music Festival will also organize several musical workshops and forums, notably the Human Rights Forum under the theme “Identities & Belongings.” to be held on June 23 at Atlas Essaouira and Spa Hotel.
The inter-governmental commission on intangible cultural heritage as relevant to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has nominated the “Gnaoua Art” dossier for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on the occasion of the 14th annual meeting of the commission in 2019.
