United Nations (New York) – The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the UN obstructed, on Saturday, the adoption of a communiqué from the Arab Group in New York, relating to the recent Israeli aggression against the holy places in Al -Quds, for the sole reason that it refers to the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the action of its President His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Indeed, the Palestinian delegation has circulated a draft communiqué for adoption to the Arab Group in New York, which condemns the Israeli aggression in the holy city and recognizes the important role of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM the King Mohammed VI, to defend the Holy City and preserve its identity. The Moroccan delegation strongly supported this project on which it did not propose any change or amendment.
All of the member states of the Arab Group supported the text of the communiqué as submitted by the Palestinian delegation, with the exception of the Algerian ambassador. The latter, faithful to the morbid hatred of his authorities against Morocco, opposed the reference to the Al-Quds Committee, and tried to include a mention of his president’s support for the Palestinian cause.
The ambassador, permanent representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale strongly condemned this umpteenth Algerian maneuver to attack Morocco and its symbols, insisting that it is neither in the habits nor in the ethics, and even less within the skills of Arab ambassadors in New York, to comment on or criticize the responsibilities devolved to Arab Heads of State and Government.
The Moroccan diplomat castigated and condemned the attitude of the new Algerian ambassador who is trying to question a language on the important role of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM King Mohammed VI, accepted and promoted for several decades by the Heads of State and Government of Arab, Islamic and Non-Aligned Movement countries.
Ambassador Hilale recalled that no later than March 9, 2022, the Arab Ministerial Committee for International Action in the Face of Illegal Israeli Measures and Policies in Occupied Al-Quds commended the efforts of HM King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, in the defense of the holy city. In this regard, he laid bare the duplicity of the Algerian diplomacy which, in Cairo, had accepted this language on the Al Quds Committee, and this with the participation of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, while it opposes New York.
Mr. Hilale recalled that HM King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, works tirelessly on the diplomatic, political and field levels, for the defense of the Holy City, the preservation of its religious status , cultural, legal and historical, as well as for the improvement of the living conditions and the resilience of its population through in particular its executive arm, Bayt mal Al-Quds. He, in this context, underlined that Morocco finances Bayt mal Al Quds at more than 86% while Algeria does not contribute in any way.
The Moroccan diplomat also defeated the Algerian ambassador’s desperate attempt to include in the draft communiqué a reference to the Algerian president’s support for the Palestinian cause, explaining that the text of the communiqué was about the particular situation at Quds Al Sharif, for which Algeria has no contribution, unlike HM King Mohammed VI and HM King Abdullah of Jordan, within the framework of Hashemite supervision over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Ambassador Hilale did not oppose an Egyptian proposal to refer to the role of Egypt and President Abdel Fattah Al Sissi, knowing that this country really has an important contribution to the Palestinian question.
He also denounced Algeria’s shameful politicization of the Palestinian issue, including it in its hateful campaign against Morocco and bidding it politically in its repeated and reprehensible attacks on the Kingdom’s institutions.
This pathological stubbornness of the new Algerian ambassador to want to counter all that is Moroccan was behind the failure of the adoption by the Arab Group of the statement proposed by Palestine to condemn the Israeli aggression against Al-Quds, although it merely reaffirms a language agreed upon for decades. This caused a large wave of indignation among the Arab ambassadors.
Algeria’s obstructionist attitude on a vital issue for the Arab world has raised real fears and apprehensions within the Arab Group about the propensity of Algeria, the next president of the Arab Summit, to sacrifice the Palestinian question, for appease its relentlessness against Morocco and its institutions.
It should be noted that the Group of Ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in New York adopted, for its part, a similar statement presented by the Palestinian delegation to condemn the Israeli aggression in Al-Quds. This statement pays tribute to the role of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM King Mohammed VI. Of course, he makes no mention of Algeria, because it simply has no contribution when it comes to the holy city.
Morocco strongly supported this draft communiqué from the Islamic world, as did all OIC members. Only Algeria expressed by an official note, its strong reservations on the reference to the Al-Quds Committee and criticized the role played by its President, HM King Mohammed VI.
The attitude of Algeria, the next president of the Arab Summit, heralds difficult days and enormous challenges for the Palestinian question and all Arab causes, because this country unfortunately puts its own anti-Moroccan politicians’ calculations before all the vital interests of the Arab world.
