Countering Terrorism: BCIJ Arrests Extremist Operating in Nador Region

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested, on December 19, as part of a joint security operation with the Spanish General Commissariat of Information (CGI), an extremist operating in Farkhana in the region of Nador.

This follows the arrest by the Spanish authorities of other elements in the city of Melilla, including a former detainee in terrorism cases in Spain, who joined terrorist organizations in the Sahel region.

According to a press release from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the preliminary investigations carried out revealed that the people arrested, as part of this joint operation, are steeped in extremist ideology, in addition to their involvement in the recruitment of other elements.

The individual arrested in Morocco will be placed in police custody under the supervision of the prosecution in charge of terrorism and extremism cases, to identify his possible links and his terrorist projects.

This joint security operation is part of the ongoing and distinguished security coordination between the Moroccan security services and their Spanish counterparts, which confirms the importance of partnership between the two countries in countering terrorism, in order to identify existing links between terrorist cells operating in Morocco and Spain.
