The Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and Urban Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, underlined, on January 8, that around 16,302 requests were recorded in one week by the digital platform “DAAM SAKANE” relating to registration for the direct housing assistance program.
El Mansouri indicated that since the launch of the digital platform on January 2, 89% of applications submitted (23% of Moroccans residing abroad) are eligible to benefit from this aid, specifying that 73% of requests relate to housing worth less than MAD 300,000.
The minister added that the average age of applicants is 39, 66% of which are men and 34% women, noting that the applications were distributed according to geographical areas, particularly in the prefectures of Fez, Meknes, and Marrakech, the province of Berrechid, and the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah.
The new housing assistance program, launched on January 2, 2024, has a social dimension, by guaranteeing housing to Moroccans as a constitutional right, and an economic dimension, by contributing to the take-off of a vital sector for the national economy, which employs more than a million Moroccans.
During the first year of the program, the ministry aims to encourage families to acquire housing, which amounts to approximately 114,000 housing units, with 58,000 housing units dedicated to the middle class, added El Mansouri.
In this regard, the minister shed light on the various Royal initiatives in the housing sector over the last two decades, which have enabled 4 million citizens with limited income to access decent housing, adding that the social housing program, launched by His Majesty the King in 2010, made it possible to create 650,000 units, with 100,000 units currently under preparation.
