Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Dakhla will host the 13th edition of the “Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Kitesurfing World Cup 2023” (September 22 – October 1), as well as the second edition of the Global Wingsports Association (GWA) Wingfoil World Cup.
According to a press release from the organizers, “This event will see the participation of an elite group of competitors representing national champions and top-level participants from the USA, France, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cabo Verde, South Africa, Spain, and several other countries.”
The championships will feature 39 competitors (26 men and 13 women) in Strapless kitesurfing and 36 (26 men and 10 women) in Wing Foil. These two disciplines are recognized as Olympic events and are attracting growing interest from water sports enthusiasts around the world.
This event also aims to crown “The Rider of the Year” for the Strapless Wave & foil discipline, prepare national champions for Olympic competitions, and further consolidate Dakhla’s position as a world showcase for board sports, and its presence in the world competition circuit for kitesurfing, foiling and wing foiling, which are included in the Olympic Games program.
The Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Kitesurfing World Cup and the Global Wingsports Association (GWA) Wingfoil World Cup will be held this year in solidarity with the victims of the earthquake that shook Al Haouz region of Morocco.
The Dakhla Lagoon Association, the organizer of this event, has launched a solidarity campaign under the hashtag #KiteWingSupport, with the generous participation of riders, to affirm its commitment to solidarity and the spirit of mutual aid that has always prevailed in previous editions.
The Dakhla World Kitesurfing Championship is a must-attend global event, thanks to the High Solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI that His Majesty has given to this championship since its first edition, and owing the success of previous editions, which saw the participation of 1,000 international stars and strong national and international media coverage (over 40 large-audience media).
The Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Kitesurfing World Cup and the Global Wingsports Association (GWA) Wingfoil World Cup are highly important as they will mark the launch of the project relating to the creation of a sports village that will serve as a platform for exchanges between athletes and space for water sports demonstrations, kitesurfing initiation, equipment displays, and the organization of conferences and events.
These championships will also be an opportunity to further elevate the competitiveness level of national riders and strengthen Morocco’s participation in the international board sports circuit.
The presence of international riders in world rankings will also contribute to tourism development, as they will serve as true ambassadors for the city of Dakhla.
