The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, highlighted the Royal Vision relating to African cooperation and multilateral partnership in counter-terrorism.

Speaking at the opening of the third HighLevel event of Heads of African Counter-Terrorism and Security Agencies in Africa, known as the Marrakech Platform, held on June 4 in Fez, Bourita stressed that this event is perfectly aligned with the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, in matters of African cooperation.

Referring to the growing terrorist threat in Africa, Bourita revealed that 60% of terrorism victims worldwide were in sub-Saharan Africa and that West Africa, alone, experienced more than 1,800 terrorist attacks in the first six months of 2023.

In the same context, the minister commended the constant and positive evolution of the Marrakech Platform which witnessed, this year, the participation of over sixty delegations representing UN member states, including African states and regional and international organizations.

The Moroccan official also called for the adoption of new technologies, such Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones to combat terrorist threats.

On a final note, Bourita praised the strategic partnership between Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), and the numerous initiatives implemented to support African States in this area.
