The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication announced, in a press release, that the UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which held a meeting on December 7 as part of its 18th session in Botswana, approved Morocco’s request to inscribe the art of Malhoun on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This inscription is an international recognition of this authentic Moroccan heritage, which is considered an essential component of the Moroccan cultural identity, and a consolidation of the Kingdom’s efforts under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, in the field of preservation and conservation of Moroccan cultural heritage.
On this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Department of Culture, at the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Samira Malizi, expressed her gratitude to the members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the inscription of Malhoun on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
