Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed, on December 20 in Marrakech, his country’s support for a lasting solution based on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions to resolve the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
During a joint press briefing following his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 6th edition of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, Lavrov stated that Russia supports “the achievement of a lasting solution on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and we intend to continue our attachment to this line of principle to achieve progress and reach adequate decisions”.
The head of the Russian diplomacy also commended the mediation efforts of the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura.
