Serbian Novak Djokovic was named European Sportsperson of the Year 2023 following the traditional poll organized by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
With 178 points, the world number 1 beat Formula 1 world champion Dutchman Max Verstappen (150 points), and world record holder in the pole vault, Swedish Armand Duplantis (92 points).
This is the fifth plebiscite (2011, 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2023) for the 36-year-old tennis player, who finished the year as world No.1 for the eighth time in his career, becoming the first player to spend a total of 400 weeks at the top of the world rankings.
