The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and Huawei Morocco signed, on July 18 in Rabat, a cooperation agreement to strengthen the integration of renewable energies into the Kingdom’s power system.
This agreement reflects the commitment of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) to innovation in the field of electricity storage, which constitutes a key element in the massive integration of renewable energies.
Within the framework of this agreement, ONEE and Huawei will share their technological expertise, particularly in battery-based electricity storage systems, to develop innovative solutions for the renewable energies sector. This partnership is in line with the national energy strategy, which aims to increase the share of renewable energies up to 52% of the electricity mix by 2030.
The agreement also covers the equipment of ONEE’s Center for Electrical Science and Technology with technical laboratory equipment for tests and demonstrations, the design and implementation of pilot projects, and the establishment of a technological exchange framework between the two parties to strengthen the sector’s technical and technological skills and consolidate the monitoring of renewable energies performance in the national power system.
This partnership reflects the importance of the innovative development of Morocco’s electricity system, as well as the role of public-private partnerships in promoting renewable energies. It is also an important milestone for the Kingdom’s energy transition and sustainable development.
