Siemens Mobility announces that it has signed a contract with the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) in Egypt, for the delivery of the very first high-speed rail line dedicated to freight transport in Egypt.
The contract signed today covers 660 of the planned 1,800 km of rail network. Linking the port cities of Ain Sokhna, on the Red Sea, to Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria, on the Mediterranean, these 660 km will create a kind of Suez Canal on rails, assures Siemens.
In collaboration with partners Orascom Construction S.A.E. and The Arab Contractors, Siemens Mobility will provide system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance services for 15 years.
The total value of the contract is estimated at $4.5 billion for Siemens Mobility.
