7th General Population Census, Towards A Digital Evolution

Preparations are underway to conduct the 7th General Population and Housing Census (RGPH), which will take place between September 1 and 30, 2024.

According to information disclosed in the official bulletin n°7260, this census is characterized by a resolutely modern and digital approach.

Since 2019, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) has been engaged in a significant digital transformation. This census is a departure from traditional methods, with an emphasis on digitization and methodological efficiency.

According to Decree No. 2.23.1065, the preparation and implementation of this census involves several key stages, beginning with the definition of the conceptual and methodological bases, followed by the development of IT tools and systems, the organization of Information and communication campaigns, in addition to determining the necessary material, human and logistical resources.

Cartographic work is another crucial step, which will determine the census zones, and will be followed by the training of participants, carried out both remotely and in person, in addition to the collection, processing and pulication of data in accordance with national and international standards.

Eligible census participants include civil and public servants, retirees, and graduates of universities and colleges, including those with at least two years of post-baccalaureate training. Students and trainees having completed at least two years of post-baccalaureate studies and aged at least 20 on January 1 of the census year are also eligible.

A special digital platform will be set up for the registration of candidates, and selected participants will undergo training to master census concepts and terminologies and acquire the necessary technical skills, including the use of electronic tablets for data collection.

The decree provides compensation for the different stages of the process, varying from MAD 150 to MAD 800, depending on the specific tasks, and participants in charge of preparing, organizing, supervising, carrying out,, and operating the census operation will benefit from a daily allowance to cover the various expenses.
