“The United States reiterates the support of the Moroccan autonomy plan as a serious, credible and realistic solution”, stated the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Michele Sison, at a press conference following discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
The U.S. official added that “the priority of the United States is to support a credible process leading to a dignified and lasting solution to the Sahara conflict, which has the support of the international community.’’
In addition, Sison said that the meeting also focused on the ongoing support of the United States to Staffan de Mistura in his position as personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara.
In a similar context, Sison stated that the discussions included the U.S. strong support for MINURSO’s peacekeeping efforts and its significance in maintaining the conditions for the UN-led peace process.
