Morocco and Egypt signed, on November 5 in Cairo, a cooperation agreement and two memorandums of understanding (MoU) relating to road safety, railroads, and maritime navigation.
These agreements were signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and his Egyptian counterpart, Kamel al-Wazir, on the sidelines of the 5th edition of the Middle East and Africa Trade Fair for Intelligent and Green Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics (TransMEA 2023).
The first cooperation agreement is part of the two countries’ commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of road safety, promoting scientific research, developing Morocco and Egypt’s capacities, and exchanging expertise.
This agreement is a testament to the two countries’ conviction of the importance of a partnership based on the sharing and exchange of know-how between experts in the field of road safety, as well as the need to formalize this cooperation and adopt mechanisms for periodic evaluation.
Through this agreement, Morocco and Egypt aim to forge cooperation in the fields of road safety management and strategy development and support and develop their capacities in the elaboration, implementation, and evaluation of road safety strategies and the integration of innovative technologies in the field of road safety.
The second agreement relates to the rail transport sector and aims to define a general framework for bilateral cooperation in this field.
Under this agreement, Morocco and Egypt pledge to take all initiatives to contribute to the development of their cooperation and the consolidation of consultation on important issues of common interest in the field of rail transport.
The agreement includes a wide scope of rail-related activities, including network development, mobile equipment, rail engineering, signaling, rail operations, land valuation in and around stations, freight transport, services, and logistics, digitalization of the sector, innovation, research, sustainable development, and improved management systems.
The final agreement is a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the mutual recognition of certificates of competency for flight crews, which aims to strengthen cooperation and complementarity relations between Morocco and Egypt in the fields of maritime transport and the two countries’ commitment to undertaking the necessary measures to implement the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
Morocco is represented at TransMEA-2023, underway until November 8, by a high-level delegation led by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and comprising high-level officials from the Ministry and the public institutions and companies under its authority.
TransMEA, which is an opportunity for meetings and exchanges between senior officials in the transport sector worldwide, is a global platform aimed at strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise and best practices, and exploring the latest technologies and innovations in this vital sector.
The event brings together senior executives from the global transport sector, including ministers, heads of institutions and companies, heads of transport authorities from Middle Eastern and African countries, as well as representatives of relevant international organizations and sponsors.
