The president of the Open University of Dakhla, Driss Guerraoui, was unanimously elected, on April 8 in Panama City, member of the executive committee of the International Council for Social Action (CIAS).
Founded in 1928, and headquartered in Utrecht in the Netherlands, CIAS is one of the first international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to obtain special consultative status with the United Nations (UN) and specialized agencies, notably the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The Council aims to advance social welfare, social justice, and social development worldwide to eradicate poverty and protect the fundamental human rights to food, education, health, housing, and social protection.
It should be noted that Morocco joined the Council’s Board of Directors in June 2010, following its unanimous election by its general assembly in Hong Kong.
