The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, called on April 20 in Rabat, for collective and collaborative action to address the complex challenges facing Africa, including food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development.
Intervening at the closing of the 33rd session of the Regional Conference for Africa (ARC33) which is organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Sadiki affirmed that “by acting together, significant and lasting progress can be achieved for the future of African agriculture”, reiterating Africa’s commitment to the transformation of food systems to face growing climate challenges.
In this regard, Sadiki recalled the fruitful discussions that took place on the sidelines of the conference with the participation of 40 ministers and delegations, stressing the importance of implementing the resolutions adopted to achieve the necessary change in Africa’s agri-food systems.
The Moroccan strategy “Green Generation 2020-2030” was at the heart of these debates, revealed the minister, shedding light on the several initiatives aimed at preserving natural resources, particularly water, and improving soil fertility.
Participants also reviewed animal and crop production practices and examined ways to optimize their efficiency while minimizing their environmental footprint.
Organized under the aegis of Morocco, this three-day conference constitutes a major opportunity for African countries to discuss practical and concrete solutions aimed at achieving transformative and sustainable change in agri-food systems across the continent.
