HM King Mohammed VI Receives Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, received, on February 21, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Head of the Spanish government His Excellency Pedro Sanchez, who conducted a working visit to Morocco.

“His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, received, today, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, His Excellency Pedro Sanchez, Head of the government of the Kingdom of Spain, who is conducting a working visit to Morocco.

This visit is part of the continuity of the new phase of bilateral relations beginning following the meeting between His Majesty the King, may Allah glorify Him, and the Head of the Spanish Government, in April 2022, and the adoption, on this occasion, of the Joint Declaration between the two countries.

This new dynamic is unfolding in a satisfactory manner. It is marked by the strengthening of cooperation, coordination and partnership in all areas, based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, good neighborliness and respect of commitments.

On the occasion of this meeting, the Prime Minister of the Spanish government reiterated to His Majesty the King, may Allah preserve Him, the position of Spain, included in the joint declaration of April 2022, and which considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of this dispute. His Majesty the King expressed His gratitude to Spain for this new constructive and crucial position.

His Majesty the King, may Allah assist Him, and His Excellency Pedro Sanchez, also shed light on the unique prospects for cooperation that open up to the two neighboring countries. The joint organization – with Portugal – of the 2030 FIFA World Cup constitutes an additional lever for strengthening bilateral relations.

Moreover, the Spanish Prime Minister welcomed and expressed Spain’s interest in the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty the King, may Allah help Him, namely the Initiative of African countries bordering the Atlantic, the Royal Initiative to promote access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic, and the Morocco-Nigeria African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline.

This meeting was attended by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs at the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Spanish government, Emma Aparici, His Majesty the King’s Advisor, Fouad Ali El Himma, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

Upon his arrival at the Royal Palace, the President of the Spanish government reviewed a detachment of the Royal Guard who were paying the honors, before being served milk and dates.”
