Head of government Aziz Akhannouch affirmed, on April 24 in Rabat, that Morocco’s achievements in several areas are the fruit of the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
During the joint plenary session, held by the two houses of parliament for the presentation of the progress report on the government’s action, in accordance with article 101 of the Constitution, Akhannouch noted that Moroccan diplomacy has achieved remarkable progress in the Moroccan Sahara issue, reflected in the several recognitions of the Moroccanity of the Sahara, which confirm the relevance of the royal approach in the management of this artificial dispute.
This approach aims to turn the Kingdom’s southern provinces into a geopolitical space of reference, bringing peace, stability, and prosperity to the Euro-African region, explained the head of government.
In the same context, Akhannouch affirmed that the seriousness and solidity of the Moroccan position within the framework of the United Nations (UN) process also offer promising prospects for the promotion of the Moroccan Sahara as the world’s “gateway” to Africa, which will subsequently consolidate Morocco’s strategic position at the continental level and create favorable conditions for the attraction of large global investments.
On a different note, the Moroccan official indicated that under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, the Kingdom has forged new partnerships with several brotherly and friendly countries, citing as an example the success of the joint bid of Morocco, alongside Spain and Portugal to organize the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Akhannouch recalled, in this regard, the signing of several agreements and the Declaration “Towards An Innovative, Renewed and Rooted Partnership between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates”, the Royal Atlantic Initiative which aims to facilitate the access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic, and His Majesty the King’s initiatives and positions in favor of the Palestinian cause.
Speaking about human rights, the official highlighted the important place that Morocco occupies at the international level in this field, adding that the Kingdom’s election to the presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) reflects Morocco’s commitment to human rights and the confidence and credibility enjoyed by the Kingdom in this area.
Akhannouch also shed light on His Majesty the King’s decision to declare the Amazigh New Year as an official paid national holiday is a significant historical moment that will contribute to consolidating the progress achieved in this field.
Referring to the High Concern with which the Sovereign surrounds the issues of women and the family, and His constant commitment to preserving family cohesion, the head of government recalled the Royal Letter addressed, on September 26, 2023, to the government on the revision of the Family Code as well as the broad consultations and participatory sessions organized by the Authority in charge of this revision with the various stakeholders concerned.
Akhannouch concluded his intervention by expressing his deep gratitude to His Majesty the King for the achievements witnessed on all levels, reiterating the government’s commitment to implementing the High Royal Directives.
