Lower House Speaker Holds Talks with Korean Counterpart

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, held talks, on January 17, in Rabat, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Kim Jin-Pyo, on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation.

During this meeting, Talbi Alami welcomed the level of distinguished relations between Morocco and the Republic of Korea, which have been witnessing constant development since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, welcoming the visit made by Jin-Pyo to the Kingdom, which coincides with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Moroccan Parliament.

On this occasion, the Lower House Speaker reviewed the major projects launched by Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which have made the Kingdom a pioneering country regionally and internationally.

In a different context, Talbi Alami praised the positive position of the Republic of Korea regarding the Moroccan Sahara, recalling in this regard the message addressed on March 12, 1976, to the late His Majesty King Hassan II by former Korean President, Park Chung Hee, expressing his congratulations for the recovery of the Moroccan Sahara following the success of the Green March.

For his part, the Korean official reaffirmed his country’s support, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, stressing his country’s position which is based on imposing respect and support for United Nations (UN) resolutions and international legitimacy.

Jin-Pyo also stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in all areas, welcoming Morocco’s participation in the work of the Korea-Africa Summit, scheduled to be held in June in Seoul.

This meeting took place in the presence of the president of the Moroccan-Korean parliamentary friendship group, Mohamed Hichami, and Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco, Keeyong Chung.
