Moroccan Sahara: Qatar Reiterates before UNGA 4C Support for Moroccan Autonomy Plan

Qatar reiterated, on October 2 in New York, its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, describing it as a “constructive” initiative and an “objective” basis for a realistic and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

Speaking before the members of the Fourth Committee (4C) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Qatar’s representative, Jassim Al-Thani, expressed his country’s support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s (UNSG) efforts to achieve a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution within the framework of the process conducted under the aegis of the United Nations (UN) and the relevant Security Council (SC) resolutions, and with due respect for the Moroccan sovereignty.

The Qatari diplomat also praised the efforts of the UNSG Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, calling for a definitive and lasting solution to this dispute, in the interests of all parties and in favor of strengthening stability and cooperation in the region, as well as international peace and security.
