Morocco’s World Cup journey is far from over. In their quest for the gold trophy, the Atlas Lions defeated yet another European powerhouse, advancing to the semifinals following a 1-0 victory over Portugal.
The game’s sole goal came just before halftime in the 42nd minute when Yahya Attiat-Allah lofted a ball in front of the Portuguese GK, and Youssef En-Nesyri jumping to an incredible height of 2.78m, scoring the winner goal, and beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous leap for Juventus in 2019.
It is worth recalling that neither Croatia, Belgium, Canada, Spain nor Portugal — has succeeded in scoring a goal against Morocco in this World Cup tournament.
With Saturday’s achievement, Morocco becomes the first African country to reach the semifinals of a World Cup. Fans from all over the world have come together to cheer for the Atlas Lions, now famously known as the giant killers.
Next Wednesday, the Atlas Lions face the French Roosters in an intense battle, to determine the world cup finalists.
