Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), Abderrahim El Hafidi, was re-elected Governor of the World Water Council on the occasion of the council’s 9th General Assembly held in Paris.
According to a press release from l’ONEE, this re-election for a second consecutive term, for the period 2023-2025, took place following the vote of the members of the World Water Council, representing more than 50 countries.
The re-election recognizes the significant contribution of the office during the first term (2019-2022) which focused mainly on the implementation of the strategic orientations of the council at the international level and the coordination of the implementation of the 2019 -2022 strategy on “Water Security, Sustainability and Resilience”.
It should be noted that the 1st World Water Forum was organized in Marrakech in March 1997 and the next will be held in Bali, Indonesia in 2024.
It should also be recalled that within the framework of the World Water Forum, Morocco and the World Water Council jointly award the prestigious Hassan II Great World Water Prize, which rewards actions and projects of innovation and creativity in the field of water security.
