The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the official investiture ceremony of Liberia’s new President, Joseph Boakai, which took place on January 22 in the capital Monrovia.
The ceremony took place at the Capitol Building in the presence of heads of state and delegations, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Liberia, as well as several other personalities.
On this occasion, His Majesty King Mohammed VI expressed his warm congratulations to the elected president, Joseph Boakai, wishing him success in the fulfillment of his duties in the service of the brotherly Liberian people towards greater progress and prosperity.
His Majesty the King also praised the privileged relations uniting Morocco and Liberia, reiterating his firm determination to continue to work with the elected Liberian president to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the service of the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples and the consolidation of the unity, stability, and prosperity of the African continent.
Joseph Boakai succeeded outgoing President George Weah who won the presidential election of 2018 at the expense of Boakai.
A veteran of Liberian politics, Boakai won in the second round of the presidential election on November 14, 2023, snatching 50.64% of the votes, against 49.36% for his opponent George Weah.
