Several economic stakeholders affirmed on November 15 in Tangier that Morocco, with its geostrategic position at the crossroads of North and West Africa, is the gateway to Africa and a key player in continental dynamics.
Taking part in a session of the “MEDays Investment Summit” under the theme “Morocco, Gateway to Africa”, the economic stakeholders stressed that the economic development vision and the strategic orientation towards Africa, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, testify to Morocco’s emerging position as a hub for cooperation and regional integration on the continent.
On this occasion, the Director General of the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE), Adil Seddiki, stated that Morocco has made great strides in almost 20 years, thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s Far-sighted Vision, which constitutes a solid foundation for economic emergence.
In this regard, Seddiki shed light on the political and economic stability that Morocco enjoys, which enables it to become more attractive to national and international investors, stressing that the Kingdom is committed to building an infrastructure of the highest world standards, with Africa’s leading airport network, the continent’s first high-speed line, one of Africa’s most highly-developed motorway networks, and an open economy with free trade agreements signed with 50 countries and a market of two and a half billion consumers.
For his part, Managing Partner of Mazars Maroc, Abdou Souleye Diop, noted that the gateway status “cannot be decreed but must be built through strategy and vision, and this is what was achieved by Morocco brilliantly by establishing port, air and land connectivity, as well as that of electricity connectivity with a view to gas connectivity”.
“Developing economic connectivity entails developing financial and industrial connectivity, which makes Morocco the most suitable platform for developing business on the African continent,” added Diop.
In a similar statement, the Managing Director of Renault Maroc, Mohamed Bachiri, stressed that Morocco has established a large number of structuring projects to facilitate the reception of foreign investors in the country, whether in terms of infrastructure, ports, railways, freeways, or free zones, which have enabled the Renault Group to contribute by 3.2% to Morocco’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and produce 350,000 cars by 2022, exported to 70 countries.
Bachiri stated that “the automotive sector, as Morocco’s leading exporter, is expected to generate MAD 130 billion in exports this year, representing 29% of Morocco’s total exports.”
The 15th edition of the MEDays International Forum, organized by Amadeus Institute under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, brings together over 250 speakers, political and economic decision-makers, and over 5,000 participants from nearly 100 countries.
