The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit, held on December 5 in Doha, welcomed the compromise obtained during the meetings in June in Morocco of the 6+6 Joint Commission, which is tasked by the House of Representatives and the Libyan State Council to draft electoral laws.
In a press release, the Council underlined that the compromise reached regarding the laws governing the election of the head of state and members of parliament in Libya represents “a positive and constructive step in the presidential and legislative elections”, reaffirming its constant position on the Libyan crisis.
The Council also emphasized the importance of preserving Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, reiterating its support for the efforts of the UN envoy to reach a political solution, hold elections, and unify state institutions, to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people and consolidate the foundations of security and stability in Libya.
