The Republic of Sierra Leone expressed its full support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, describing Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the only “credible, serious and realistic” solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was expressed in a joint communiqué published following a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Timothy Musa Kabba, on April 23 in Rabat.
In this joint statement, Kabba reiterated his country’s firm support for Morocco’s territorial integrity; a position which was reinforced by the opening, in August 2021, of a Consulate General of Sierra Leone in Dakhla, and the country’s participation, on January 15, 2021, in the Ministerial Conference in Support of the Autonomy Initiative under Morocco’s Sovereignty at the invitation of the Kingdom and the United States.
In this regard, the head of Sierra Leonean diplomacy expressed his full support for the process led by the United Nations (UN) to achieve a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
