Senior Vice President of the Washington-based American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC), Ilan Berman, stated that the working visit of Pedro Sanchez to Morocco on February 21 reflects the solid dynamic of bilateral cooperation which translates into tangible results for the benefit of the two countries and beyond.
“The recent dynamic in relations between Rabat and Madrid is clearly moving towards greater cooperation,” said Berman in a statement to Maghreb Arab Presse (MAP), underlining the positive results of the multidimensional strategic partnership between the two countries which constitutes a model of good neighborliness.
In this regard, the AFPC Vice President stressed the importance of the new phase of bilateral relations which has begun since the meeting between HM King Mohammed VI and the Spanish Prime Minister in April 2022, and the adoption, on this occasion, of the Joint Declaration between the two countries.
In a similar context, the American expert shed light on Spain’s constructive position in support of Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative for the settlement of the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, noting that Sanchez “clearly made the improvement of relations with Morocco a priority”.
“Madrid clearly understands the importance of the continent in economic, political, and human terms, and Morocco has proven that it is a leader in regional policy,” added Berman.
It should be recalled that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, received on February 21 at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Head of the Spanish government Pedro Sanchez.
During this meeting, Sanchez expressed his country’s interest in the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty the King, in particular the Initiative of African countries bordering the Atlantic, the Royal Initiative to promote access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic, and the Morocco-Nigeria African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project.
