BRICS/Africa Meeting: India Affirms Unilateral Nature of South Africa’s Extended Invitations

The Indian government confirmed in a press release the unilateral nature of South Africa’s extended invitation to the “BRICS/Africa” meeting, scheduled to take place on August 24 in Johannesburg.

The Indian government’s press release affirmed that the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is expected in South Africa between August 22 and 24 to take part in the 15th BRICS Summit, adding that the Indian official will also attend the “BRICS/Africa” meeting, alongside other participants that “South Africa invited.”

It should be recalled that an authorized source close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates had previously asserted that this “meeting is organized based on a unilateral initiative by the South African government.”

The same source stressed that Morocco has always been in favor of responding positively to the invitation to the “BRICS/Africa.”
