Morocco’s Under-17 football selection sailed to the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, topping group A following its victory over host country Indonesia (3-0) on November 16 at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya.
The Moroccan selection’s goals were scored by Anas Alaoui through a penalty shot (29’), Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal (38’), and Mohamed Hamony (64’), while Indonesia’s sole goal was scored by Muhammad Nabil Asyura (42’).
Thanks to this remarkable victory over Indonesia and the draw (1-1) between Panama and Ecuador, the Moroccan U-17 selection finished at the top of the group phase with six points, ahead of Ecuador who ranked second, and Indonesia and Panama who shared third place.
Morocco’s U-17 selection kicked off their 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup journey successfully, beating Panama (2-0), before losing to Ecuador (0-2) in their second match of the group phase and finishing on a high with a convincing victory over host Indonesia, thus guaranteeing qualification for the Round of 16 as Group A leaders.
The Moroccan U-17 selection will play its Round of 16 match on November 21 at Surabaya’s Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Indonesia. The opponent has yet to be determined.
