The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held talks, on May 16 in Rabat, with the Mayor of the Peruvian municipality “Pueblo Libre,” Mónica Tello López.
This meeting is part of López’s working visit to Morocco between May 12 and 20 to conclude a twinning agreement between Pueblo Libre’s municipality and Laayoune.
In a statement to the press, López affirmed her support for the Peruvian Congress’ initiative of creating a “support group for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan,” stressing that her visit to Morocco is an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations.
The Peruvian Mayor also stated that discussions with the Moroccan Foreign Minister focused on ways to consolidate friendship ties between Morocco and Peru, adding that the Peruvian Congress has designated November 30 of every year as a day to celebrate the visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Peru in 2004.
“These celebrations will be an opportunity to introduce Moroccan culture to the inhabitants of Pueblo Libre, through artistic, creative, and culinary events, and the showcase of Moroccan handicrafts,” added López.
The Mayor of Pueblo Libre and her accompanying delegation held, on May 15 in Rabat, a meeting with the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar, who highlighted Morocco’s achievements in promoting women’s rights, and the pioneering role women currently play in managing local and political affairs.
