The Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Amir Ohana, commended the “open and forward Leadership, the vision of peace and the innovative thinking” of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Ohana stated on June 7 that His Majesty the King, who is following the footsteps of His Grandfather the late His Majesty King Mohammed V, and His Father the late His Majesty King Hassan II, invests more efforts into preserving Hebraic heritage in Morocco.
The Knesset Speaker underlined that thanks to the personal investment of His Majesty the King, a growing number of streets are named after Moroccan scholars of Judaism, and museums and cultural sites of Moroccan Judaism are under the process of opening, adding that his official visit will officially begin on June 8 at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami.
The Knesset Speaker shed light on the peace and prosperity framework in which the Moroccan Jewish community lives, stressing that His Majesty the King is the guarantor of the spiritual and physical security of all Moroccan citizens regardless of their faith.
Ohana, who spoke of his Moroccan origins, recalled that Moroccan Jews represent one of Israel’s largest and most dynamic communities.
The Israeli official added that over the years, Moroccan Jews have become involved in several areas, such as security, economy, science, and culture, noting that several Israelis of Moroccan origin have been elected in positions of responsibility, notably members of the Knesset, ministers, and for the first time, the Knesset Speaker position.
Ohana also praised the Morocco-US-Israel tripartite agreement, which enabled the restoration of relations with the Jewish state, describing it as “the most important breakthrough in the last decades.”
In this regard, the Knesset Speaker noted that the tripartite agreement would “pave the way to historic agreements, expand the scope of peace and bring Nations closer to each other,” underlining that cooperation in several fields is already underway.
“We work together in almost all fields,” said Ohana, noting that Morocco’s restoration of relations with Israel allowed Israelis to visit the Kingdom, which has become a popular tourist destination.
“Those who visit (Morocco) always go back home with stories about the generosity of Moroccans, their warmth, and their love and compassion for others,” stated Ohana, further expressing his confidence that peace would be achieved in the Middle East, particularly thanks to the Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
