The permanent representative of the House of Councilors to the Parliament of Central America, Ahmed Lakhrif, emphasized, on Tuesday, the importance of parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and Guatemala in the advancing and strengthening of their privileged bilateral relations.
According to a statement by the House of Councilors, Lakhrif, on a visit to the Republic of Guatemala to partake in the work of the regular session of the Central American parliament, expressed the pride of all Moroccan parliamentarians regarding the remarkable dynamics of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Guatemala.
During his discussions with the Guatemalan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ava Atzum Arevalo, Lakhrif emphasized that the celebration, in 2021, of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations reflects the strength of historical ties uniting the two countries as strategic allies at all levels.
During this meeting, that was also attended by the Moroccan Ambassador to Guatemala, Tarik Louajri, Lakhrif recalled the significance of the visit of the President of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, to the Republic of Guatemala last February, which was crowned by an audience with the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei.
Lakhrif took this opportunity to commend the steadfast position of the Republic of Guatemala regarding the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, by supporting the autonomy plan under Morocco’s sovereignty as the only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. He recalls, in this regard, that this position was expressed in the inauguration of the Consulate General of Guatemala in Dakhla.
