The Moroccan under-23 selection qualified, on July 4, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat, for the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN U23) and the 2024 Olympic Games (Paris-2024), following its victory over Mali in a penalty shoot-out.
The Moroccan selection scored first in the 14th minute through Zakaria El Ouahdi before Mamady Diambou leveled the scores in the 66th minute. In the extra time, Amine El Ouazzani restored the lead (111’); however, Issoufi Maiga managed to equalize for Mali shortly after (116’).
In the penalty shoot-out, the Moroccan selection won 4 to 3, sailing for the final, scheduled for July 8, where they will face their Egyptian counterpart, while Guinea and Mali will meet in the third-place play-off.
With Morocco and Egypt securing their tickets for the next Olympics, the third-place team will also be awarded a ticket to the Olympic Games, while the fourth-placed team will be able to reach the next Olympic Games, provided it wins a play-off against an Asian country.
