The Moroccan Under 17 selection qualified for the finals of the 2023 Under 17 African Cup of Nations following their victory against Mali on penalties (6-5), on Sunday, May 14, in Algeria.
The Moroccan selection found themselves head to head against their Malian counterparts, solid and dangerous opponents in the attacking zone.
The Moroccans were able to tackle the Malians’ attempts, which were strong in one-on-one situations, and came close to scoring on several occasions; however, the two selections were unable to break the tie.
Following a close-call match, the penalty shootout kicked off to determine the finalist of the Under 17 African Cup of Nations (U17 AFCON), leaving football enthusiasts on edge.
The penalty shootout highlighted the skills of Moroccan Goalkeeper Taha Benghozil, who successfully saved 3 penalties, leading the Moroccan selection to the finals, where they will face their Senegalese counterparts to determine the Champions of 2023 Under 17 African Cup of Nations (U17 AFCON).
