The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, on July 24 in Marrakech, the 3rd meeting of the National Steering Committee for the organization of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
These Annual Meetings, scheduled to take place in Marrakech in October, will bring together 14.000 high-level participants, including Ministers of Economy and Finance and Central Bank Governors from the two institution’s member countries.
Akhannouch, accompanied by members of the steering committee, visited the venues where these meetings are scheduled to be held to assess the progress of preparations and ensure that the infrastructures in place are sufficient to accommodate participants in the best possible conditions.
On this occasion, Akhannouch shed light on the Kingdom’s growing influence as a host to major world events, recalling the achievements accomplished in infrastructure and structuring projects under the Enlightened Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him.
The Head of Government also stressed that the choice of Morocco to host a global meeting of the level of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which take place triennially in a different continent, reflects the special interest that the two international financial institutions attach to the Kingdom, noting that this event is an opportunity for Morocco to represent the African continent within the international community.
In this regard, Akhannouch called on the relevant parties, ministerial departments, and local authorities in Marrakech to deploy all necessary efforts to ensure the success of this important event and guarantee the best conditions for hosting participants.
The steering committee meeting was attended by Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and Urban Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatima Zahra Ammor, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Laila Benali, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, as well as Wali of Bank Al Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and Governor of the Prefecture of Marrakech, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, Ambassador and Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Resident Abroad, Fouad Yazourh, and Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Adel El Fakir.
The World Bank (WB) Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings will focus on six main themes, namely financial and digital inclusion, sustainable development, reforms of international financial institutions, entrepreneurship and innovation, social safety nets, and tolerance and coexistence.
The WB-IMF Meetings are an annual gathering of high-level international economic and financial operators to suggest solutions to future challenges.
