Facebook Changes Its Name to “Meta”

FACEBOOK CO-FOUNDER MARK ZUCKERBERG  HAS ANNOUNCED THE COMPANY’S  NEW NAME, META, AS THE  TECH  GIANT FACES A SERIES OF SCANDALS THAT HAVE TARNISHED ITS IMAGE AND CREDIBILITY WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday 28th, 2021 that the social network has adopted the new name “Meta.”

Following this change, the social network Facebook will become only one of the subsidiaries of the company, alongside Instagram and WhatsApp, while Meta shall become the main brand grouping all these companies.

“I am proud to announce that as of today, our company is now ‘Meta’,” Zuckerberg said during a Facebook annual conference.

“Right now, our brand is so tightly tied to a single product that it can’t represent everything we do today, let alone in the future,” Zuckerberg explained.

The rebranding is part of an effort to rebuild Facebook’s reputation and turn the page after a series of public relations setbacks. Dozens of articles were published this week based on internal documents provided by whistleblower Frances Haugen, a former Facebook executive, which portrayed a company prioritizing profit over user safety.
