Moroccan Sahara: Czech Republic Describes Moroccan Autonomy Plan as Serious Initiative to Resolve Dispute over Sahara

The Czech Republic expressed its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan presented in 2007, describing it “as a serious and credible initiative and a good basis for a mutually acceptable solution between the two parties.”

This position was expressed in the Joint Declaration signed on October 26 in Prague by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Czech counterpart, Jan Lipavský.

The two ministers affirmed their support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s (UNSG) Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, and his efforts to further advance the political process based on the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

The Joint Declaration also reiterated the two parties’ support for the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Sahara (MINURSO).
