Moroccan Sahara: Serbia Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity 

Serbia reiterated, on June 26, its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and “firm position against secessionism and separatism.”

Serbia’s position was reaffirmed during a telephone call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Serbian Government and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić, was formalized on the occasion of a meeting in Belgrade between Dačić and Morocco’s Ambassador to Serbia, Mohammed Amine Belhaj.

According to a press release by the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dačić also reiterated “Serbia’s support for the United Nations’ (UN) efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution to the Sahara conflict, and in full compliance with the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.”

The press release added that during this meeting, which focused on “prospects for strengthening good bilateral relations,” Dačić expressed “his gratitude to Morocco for its constant and firm support for preserving Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity under international law.” 

The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the long-standing and friendly ties uniting the two countries and Serbia’s commitment to further developing comprehensive cooperation with Morocco, including exchanges of visits at the highest level, extending an invitation to the Moroccan foreign minister to visit Serbia.

In a similar context, the Serbian minister recalled that last year, Morocco and Serbia celebrated the 65th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, describing it as “an ideal opportunity for Moroccans and Serbians to get to know each other” through numerous artistic and cultural events organized throughout the year.

Dačić also emphasized the importance of further developing “economic and trade ties between the two countries to keep pace with the excellent level of our political relations.”

The statement concluded that Belhaj delivered a letter of congratulations from Bourita to Dačić on the occasion of Serbia’s election to host the specialized exhibition EXPO Belgrade 2027.
