Moroccan Sahara: Yemen Reiterates Firm Position in Support of Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, reaffirmed, on December 19 in Marrakech, the firm and constant position of Yemen in support of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and the Moroccanity of the Sahara.

During a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 6th edition of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, Bin Mubarak reiterated his country’s “position in support of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccanity of the Sahara, a firm position that we express constantly.”

The Yemeni minister also commended the excellent historical relations between Morocco and Yemen, welcoming the interest given by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan government to the development of ties between the two countries.

In this regard, Bin Mubarak hailed Morocco’s clear and principled position in favor of his country’s unity and stability, as well as the Kingdom’s support for constitutional legality, the Presidential Council, and peace efforts, based on international principles.

The Yemeni official also highlighted coordination between the two countries on regional issues, particularly at the level of international organizations.

Referring to his talks with Bourita, which focused on several common issues, the Yemeni minister welcomed the interest and attachment shown by Morocco to the humanitarian issue in Yemen, generated by the political crisis and the “terrorist” coup of the Houthis against constitutional legality.

In a similar context, Bin Mubarak explained that the current situation in Yemen confirms the nature of the joint decisions of the two countries, adding that these talks were an opportunity to inform his Moroccan counterpart of the latest developments in Yemen and the efforts invested to establish a political process and achieve peace in the country in light of what the region is witnessing and the attacks perpetrated in the Gaza Strip.

Praising the convergence of the two countries’ positions on numerous issues, the Yemeni foreign minister stated that preparations are underway for the holding of meetings between the two parties to proceed with the revision of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), particularly at the consular level.
