The 3000 m steeplechase Olympic and world champion, Soufiane El Bakkali, was nominated on October 12, for the World Athletics 2023 Male Athlete of the Year award.
Announced on the World Athletics website, the list of nominees includes 11 athletes, including El Bakkali, who was crowned world champion in the 3000-m steeplechase last August for the second consecutive time at the World Athletics Championships (Budapest-2023).
With his latest world title, the Moroccan champion has established his position as the undisputed master of the 3000 m steeplechase.
According to World Athletics, this week marks the opening of the voting process, ahead of the World Athletics Awards 2023. Voting will close on Saturday, October 28, at midnight.
The list of nominees was selected by an international panel of athletics experts representing World Athletics’ six continental zones.
