The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, praised on October 12 in Marrakech, Morocco’s highly dynamic, diversified, and forward-looking economy.

Speaking at a press conference on the occasion of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Georgieva stated that Morocco has undertaken a series of reforms in recent decades, which have doubled its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and created a highly dynamic, diversified, and forward-looking economy.

The Managing Director also praised the resilience of the Moroccan economy in the face of different shocks, thanks to the implementation of a series of reforms to provide the Kingdom with solid institutions, a clear vision, and a greater capacity to adapt to the current context marked by a succession of crises.

Georgieva stressed that Morocco is a model that should be followed, thanks to its considerable efforts to strengthen its macroeconomic fundamentals and resilience.

The IMF official further praised the rapid and effective management of the effects of Al Haouz earthquake, and the extraordinary solidarity shown by Moroccans in the face of this tragedy, recalling her visit last Monday to the High Atlas Middle School in the commune of Asni (province of Al Haouz), where she witnessed firsthand the measures taken to ensure the rapid return of pupils to school.

In a different context, Georgieva recalled Morocco’s achievement at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, as the first African and Arab country to reach the semi-finals, noting that the Atlas Lions’ performance was a “source of inspiration”, proof “that a good team can always achieve its goals by working hand in hand.”

This global event, which returns to African soil 50 years later, is an opportunity for international economic and financial decision-makers to take a close look at the achievements and progress made by Morocco in several fields under the Enlightened Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
